Rules for Users

Crooked House Theatre Company set up the Actors' Forum in the winter of 2002.  The theatre company manages the forum.  The folowing are Guidelines for Users of the Actors' Forum.
  1. Joining the Actors' Forum implies acceptance of these rules.
  2. The Actors' Forum is a site for posting material relevant to the training, working conditions, employment opportunities, and work of actors in Ireland
  3. It is also a site of relevance to Irish theatre directors, film-makers and theatre-makers in general.
  4. Crooked House does not condone the non-payment of professional actors for acting services. The 'Unpaid Work' section of this forum is designed to facilitate those in amateur, student, youth and other non-professional sectors seeking performers.  It is up to each individual actor to choose whether or not they wish to apply for unpaid work advertised in this section.
  5. This is not a site where products and services whose aim is to make money can be relentlessly promoted.
  6. All notices posted here shall adhere to Irish law and governance, especially in relation to libel, slander, and relevant consumer protection legislation.
  7. Members of this forum are not members of Crooked House.  You are members of the Actors' Forum.
  8. The opinions and views expressed by posters and members are not necessarily those of Crooked House Theatre Company.
  9. Crooked House does not arbitrate in disputes between members.  Use the private message service for that.  If you have a difficulty with a member's opinion please private message them first.  If this does not produce a result that you consider to be useful, then contact Crooked House.  We will contact the member, possibly with a warning, and may ultimately ban them from the forum.  (We also reserve the right to consider a complainer a persistent nuisance and may ban them if cause is warranted).
  10. Post notices in the correct section.
  11. Notices to be posted in the PAID WORK section should include basic details of the fee to be paid (ie if not the actual amount itself, then a fee bracket, or a daily/weekly/hourly rate). Notices for profit-share work should be posted in the UNPAID WORK section.
  12. With the single exception of notices posted by Crooked House in the Announcements area, only notices seeking actors for audition may be posted in the Audition Notices section. No replies to ads or questions for the poster are permitted here.
  13. All notices seeking actors for audition are required to include a working email in the body of the notice.  Make sure there is room in your inbox to receive potentially over 200 CV's with headshots.
  14. Respondants to audition notices should send their material/message to the address provided by the original poster.  They should not add a public post of any kind in this section.  Alternatively, they should send a private message to the poster.
  15. Posters who wish to add something to their own posts in the Work sections should use the EDIT function and add in the new text into the original post. They should not simply post the new text as a reply - this makes people think there is a new post with new work posted up.
  16. Avoid using abusive language or denigrading another poster.  This is not a chatroom.
  17. Conduct debates and arguments with displays of intelligence and insight.
  18. Rants are not welcome unless they have significant political, social or cultural points to make in the context of theatre/film/tv.
  19. Use clarity and care when composing posts, especially with regard to articulation and expression.  Posts are not text messages.  While an individual has a right to express themselves in whatever manner they wish, and while we advocate the principle of free speech, we also believe in using a written language that is robust, accurate, coherent, clear, and engaging to read.  We therefore reserve the right to delete gross offences to taste and style; excessively careless and lazy expression; and any display of stupidity.
  20. Persistent offenders will be barred from accessing the Forum.
  21. Additions to these Guidelines are welcome and may be sent via private message, or by email.  Replies below may be left on view for a period but will be deleted after some time as this is meant to be a stand-alone message.
