Not sure which section to post this in but I was wondering if anyone knew how you become an extra on Irish tv? I studied at drama school in London and am now living over here, thought it may be a good place to start? I have looked online but most web sites ask for fees... Is that usual over here? Any ideas?

Thanks.

it's totally free!

Hi

Just to clarify, the costs for joining www.MovieExtras.ie, is €89 per year (or €99 at a photoshoot where you get 2 professional photos taken).

For this an artist gets listed in both the directory service and are available for any castings that we assist.

We are involved in an awful lot of productions. Through our directory and casting service we are currently involved in the following:

* Fair City
* RAW
* Anseo
* Primtime
* Crimecall
* Val Falvey

There are over 500 production companies registered to use our directory service, including CoCo, Independent, RTE, TV3 and Tyrone etc. On average about 40 companies would log into the directory to find artists every month.

In April, through both the directory and casting service, there was close to 2,000 days of paid work.

While the majority of our work is providing background artists, there are some featured, lines and bit parts, though these are limited. Please note - we generally would not pitch for full acting roles (though there have been a couple of exceptions including credits).

We also provide artists for adverts and have done very well for some of our members, including getting lead roles on TV adverts (€3k+) and billboard adverts. In some cases this is done through the directory so the artist receives the full amount.

We also, assist zero productions, student productions and Filmbase shorts at no cost to the producers (and sometimes at cost to ourselves) and are happy to promote any production which needs artists.

While some of our members may feel that the €89 charge is a bit much, there are many other members who are only too happy to renew.

Cheers
Derek
